St Joseph's Primary School and Nursery Unit, Bessbrook, Newry

Welcome

Dear Friends

Welcome to our School Website.

We hope that you enjoy your visit and that as we continue to add updates it will provide a sense of the ethos and nature of life in our school.

At St. Joseph’s we value and cherish all our children and every member of our school family strives to create an environment where children feel happy, safe and ready to learn. Our staff and Governors are committed to the school and work hard to provide the very best opportunities for all children to develop their learning and individual skills and talents, to see the potential in themselves and to support them in realising that potential. Our children are encouraged to be respectful, caring and hardworking to help support their relationships with others and their lives in the future.

As a Catholic school our ethos centres on nurturing every child’s personal, emotional and spiritual needs and continuing to maintain our close links with home, Parish and the wider community. We endeavour to provide a quality education through a broad and balanced curriculum supported by a wide range of additional activities, which meets the needs of all children and allows them to grow in learning, love and faith.

All at St Joseph’s PS wish our Safeguarding Governor Áine Uí Choinn all the very best as she takes on her new role as Chairperson of Coiste na Gaeilge in Croke Park. Áine was appointed by Uachtarán Nua CLG, Jarlath Burns. We have no doubt that she will excel in her role and all in St Joseph’s PS wish her the very best.

Our Primary 5 classes joined other local primary schools at a Hurling and Camogie Blitz in DKIT before Easter. The children have had coaching from Armagh Hurling Officer, James McKernan and classes throughout the school have had coaching from Craobh Rua coach, Conor. All the girls and boys who attended the blitz had a brilliant morning and it was a first for many children to have had an opportunity to take part in a sporting event. Many thanks to James and Conor for organising and to Craobh Rua Hurling and Camogie Club for funding the use of DKIT.
Congratulations to Lara in P6 Mr McGovern’s class who is our latest Word Millionaire on Accelerated Reader. Well done Lara!
