Women's Aid
As a school we support Women’s Aid who are an amazing charity offering specialist services and support for women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse. In Northern Ireland, 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence therefore we feel it is crucial as a school to focus on supporting this charity further going forward and will be choosing Women’s Aid as our main charity for fundraising in the next academic year.
Women’s Aid also advocate for preventative education for children and young people as an early intervention and have collaborated with the Department of Education to develop and roll out a two-day capacity building training programme for teachers Developing Social Guardians to Deliver Helping Hands. Miss Smith has recently completed the Helping Hands training to become a Social Guardian and will deliver the programme in our school in the new academic year. This programme aims to increase children’s understanding of feeling safe and to explore and promote behaviours which will contribute to a safe environment.
